11) Assessment
They know how to assess the range of learning objectives by selecting and developing a variety of classroom and large scale assessment techniques and instruments. They know how to analyse the results of classroom and large scale assessment instruments including provincial assessment instruments, and how to use the results for the ultimate benefit of students.
Formative
Sticky Note Brainstorming/Exit Slips
I often give students a question or topic and give them a few minutes to write their response on a sticky note and attach them to a poster or the whiteboard. For instance, as an introduction to a discussion about the 2016 American election, students wrote the characteristics of a good leader on a paper. We used our opinions to objectify our discussion about President Elect Donald Trump, and compared these characteristics to that of Machiavelli, a Renaissance philosopher. |
Collaborative Posters
In this activity, students have to brainstorm or record everything they know about a particular topic on a large piece of paper. These are almost always completed in class time. In this example, my grade 11 students read through some ghost stories and then were asked to record all the common characteristics of this genre. They also had to outline the story structure using a diagram of some sort. In culmination, they presented the poster to their classmates. |
Technology Assessments
In class I encourage students to bring their own device to complete some of the activities below:

Performance Assessment
As part of our Macbeth Unit students did a dramatic presentation of Macbeth. I used this as a formative assessment, but in the future I hope to use more Drama based assessment.
