8) Importance of respecting students' human dignity.
Know how to establish, with different students, progressional relationships that are characterized by mutual respect, trust, and harmony.
When building relationships with the students I think it is important to be present with the students. They deserve your time and your full attention during that time. I try to act upon this belief by always greeting my students on their way into and out of the classroom. I also make an effort to conference with each of my students, particularly when approaching large summative assessments. The students appreciate the one-on-one instruction, and I get a chance to see their thinking process.

Icebreakers
I believe first impressions are important. In the first few days I spend a large amount of time getting to know students and their interests. I use a number of strategies to get to know the students as individuals before jumping into academics.
- While teaching grade 10 I had students will out an online interest survey I had created through Google Forms. Shortly after, students also sent me a selfie that they felt best represented their personality, with a written explination. It was insightful way to get a glimpse into the students' current interests.
- When technology is not available, I had students fill out a personal interest inventory on paper.
- In all my classes I start off the year by having students play a version of icebreaker bingo. it is always a great way for students to get to know each other.
- Introductory Assignments allow me to get some initial assessment on their skills, as well as students' personal lives.
