Teaching Philosophy
"Every question possesses a power that is lost in the answer."

1) A Safe Place
I make a commitment to create an environment for students that is secure and comfortable. Every child deserved the right to be heard and treated fairly, within the classroom and outside it. This process involves being an active listener, and responding appropriately to difficult situations with the best of my ability.

2) Try New ThingsI constantly am seeking out new and creative ways to engage my students. Students in my class should be prepared for change and variety as we experiment with new ways of learning.
|
3) Educating Mind and Body
I believe movement and play is an essential part of learning. No matter the age, I believe that students should move. If you were to peek in the window of my class you would often see us moving, whether that be to talk in small groups across the room, create tableaus to summarize a story, or just dancing for a brain break.
|
4) Learn Through StoryFor me, reading is of fundamental importance for growth and discovery in students. There is so much to learn through narrative. From complex academic concepts, to history, to empathy and caring, stories offer a perfect teaching platform because they help students absorb and retain information. Literature, in all its forms, hold a special place in all my lessons as inspiration for my teaching, and a building block for my students.
|
5) Focus and Finish
In my classroom, students are given ample time to complete work within the classroom. If students are focused, they should have little to no homework to bring home. After school time should be spent developing world skills. I would rather see students out playing a sport, or volunteering in the community than completing an English assignment.
