Despite the fact that Crazy Man in written in free verse, Crazy Man had very rich, complex character. The character that fascinated me the most (and the character that I think will appeal to students strongly) is Angus. Characters are usually described by what they do and say, how they appear, and what others say about them, and Angus is a good example of how a discrepancy can exist between what people say about a person and how the person actually is. This relationship could easily be shown in a chart like the one I have below. Note that I most often included a quote or page number that would support my statement, a practice I would expect my students to do as well.
